  • Automated leak response systems
  • Commercial building water protection
  • Remote water supply shutoff
  • Multi-site property management
  • Unoccupied building and vacation rental protection
  • Mechanical room and utility infrastructure

How It Works

  1. Water leak sensors detect moisture at monitored locations across your facility
  2. The ioX-Connect platform receives the alert and evaluates configured rules in ioX-Pulse
  3. A downlink command is sent to the Smart Valve over LoRaWAN
  4. The valve closes automatically in ≤7 seconds, stopping water flow and preventing further damage

It’s Not Just a Valve, It’s a System: The ioX-Connect Platform Advantage
Why a Standalone Valve is Only Half the Solution

A motorized valve without an integrated platform is just a remote switch. The ioX-Connect Smart Valve is part of a complete ecosystem where sensors detect conditions, the platform analyzes data and applies rules, and actuators respond automatically. This closed-loop architecture turns reactive maintenance into proactive protection.

With ioX-Connect, your Smart Valve is connected to your water leak sensors, your alerting rules, your dashboard, and your historical data — all in one platform. When a sensor triggers, you don’t just get a notification. The valve closes, the event is logged, and your team is alerted with full context.

Building-Wide Water Leak Protection

Install the Smart Valve on the main water supply line and deploy ioX-Connect water leak sensors on each floor or in each critical zone. When any sensor detects water, the ioX-Pulse platform triggers the valve to close automatically, stopping flow to the entire building before damage spreads.

  • Eliminates hours-long manual response times
  • Protects against after-hours and weekend leaks when no one is on-site
  • Reduces insurance claims and water damage remediation costs
  • Centralized visibility across all properties from one platform
  • Automated protection eliminates the need for on-site response to every alert
  • Scalable from a single building to hundreds of locations
  • 24/7 protection without requiring occupant awareness
  • Prevents catastrophic water damage during extended vacancy periods
  • Remote valve control from anywhere via the ioX-Connect dashboard
  • Protects high-value equipment from water damage
  • Automatic isolation limits damage to the affected zone
  • Event logging provides documentation for maintenance and compliance
  • Control water flow to remote tanks without a site visit
  • LoRaWAN range covers large campuses and rural installations
  • Battery power means no electrical infrastructure needed at the valve location

Multi-Site Property Management

Property managers overseeing multiple buildings can deploy Smart Valves across their entire portfolio and monitor valve status from a single ioX-Connect dashboard. Each building gets automated leak protection without requiring on-site staff.

Unoccupied Buildings and Vacation Rentals

Empty properties are especially vulnerable to undetected water leaks. A burst pipe in a vacant building can run for days before anyone notices. The Smart Valve paired with leak sensors provides automated shutoff that protects the property whether anyone is there or not.

Mechanical Rooms and Critical Infrastructure

Boiler rooms, chiller plants, and HVAC mechanical spaces contain equipment and piping that can leak without warning. Deploying the Smart Valve on supply lines to these areas, combined with leak sensors at critical points, creates an automated isolation system.

Remote Water Tank and Supply Line Control

For facilities with remote water tanks or supply lines that are difficult to reach quickly, the Smart Valve enables remote open/close control without dispatching a technician. LoRaWAN’s long range (up to 10 km line-of-sight) makes it viable for remote installations.

Frequently Asked Questions about LoRaWAN Wireless Smart Valve

Please reach out to us at: sales@iox-connect.com if you have any additional questions that are not addressed below. You can also check out our content library for more information and content on wireless sensors and IoT.

The ioX-Connect Smart Valve is a 2-way motorized ball valve with a stainless steel body (available in SS304 or SS316) and FKM/PTFE seals. It is rated for water systems only.

The valve opens or closes in 7 seconds or less once the LoRaWAN downlink command is received. Note that the default heartbeat interval is approximately 20 minutes, so the valve responds at its next uplink check-in unless a Class A downlink window is available sooner.

Yes. You can send open/close commands directly from the ioX-Connect dashboard at any time. Automated leak response is an additional capability when paired with water leak sensors and ioX-Pulse rules, but manual remote control is always available.

The valve is available in sizes DN8 through DN25 (1/4" to 1") with internal BSP or NPT threaded connections.

Yes. The actuator includes a safety pull-and-twist manual knob that allows you to open or close the valve by hand during maintenance or battery replacement. A visible position indicator confirms whether the valve is open or closed.

The valve operates on 2 AA lithium batteries (not included in purchase). Battery life depends on the frequency of open/close operations and reporting intervals. Batteries are removed for shipping and installed on-site.

No. This valve is rated for water systems only. Do not install on gas, oil, or other non-water fluid lines.

Yes. The actuator housing is IP67-rated, meaning it is fully sealed against dust and rated for temporary submersion in water. It can be installed in mechanical rooms, utility tunnels, or outdoor enclosures.

The Smart Valve is designed to work seamlessly with ioX-Connect LoRaWAN gateways, which are required to relay commands and data between the valve and the ioX-Connect platform.

LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is a low-power, long-range wireless protocol designed for IoT devices. Unlike WiFi or Bluetooth, LoRaWAN can transmit data over distances of up to 10 km with minimal power draw, making it ideal for battery-operated devices in large facilities. For a complete guide, visit our blog: The Industrial Operator’s Guide to LoRaWAN.

LoRaWAN uses AES-128 encryption at both the network and application layers. Combined with the ioX-Connect platform’s security architecture, your valve commands and status data are protected end-to-end.
