If you manage a commercial building, greenhouse, or warehouse, you already know that temperature, humidity, and light levels don’t operate independently. A room that’s too warm is often also too humid. A workspace flooded with sunlight doesn’t need its overhead lights at full power. And a greenhouse that hits the wrong temperature-humidity-light combination can lose an entire crop cycle.
Until now, monitoring all three ambient conditions typically meant deploying separate sensors, separate batteries, separate installations, separate data streams to reconcile. The new ioX-Connect TH01LX changes that equation. It combines temperature, humidity, and precision illuminance measurement into a single LoRaWAN device with a 10+ year battery and an external lux probe.
Here’s what it does, how it works, and why it matters for your operations.
The TH01LX is a long-range wireless sensor that measures three ambient parameters simultaneously:
- Temperature: –40 °C to +80 °C (–40 °F to +176 °F)
- Humidity: 0–96% RH with ±3% accuracy
- Illuminance: 0–65,535 lx with 1 lx resolution via an external BH1750 probe on a 50 cm cable
It communicates over LoRaWAN 1.0.3 (Class A), which means long range, low power consumption, and no recurring cellular data fees. The built-in 2,400 mAh battery is rated for over 10 years of field operation - what we call deploy-and-forget reliability.
Like every ioX-Connect sensor, the TH01LX ships pre-provisioned with unique LoRaWAN keys, so onboarding to any ioX-Connect platform takes minutes, not hours.
Ambient conditions are interconnected. A facility that monitors temperature but ignores humidity misses the full picture—condensation risk, mold potential, and occupant discomfort all depend on the relationship between temperature and moisture. Add light levels to the equation, and you unlock a new tier of operational intelligence:
- Daylight harvesting: Dim artificial lights when natural light is sufficient. The TH01LX’s BH1750 probe measures exactly how much visible light is available, with 1 lx precision.
- Greenhouse optimization: Temperature, humidity, and light are the three pillars of plant health. Monitoring all three from one device simplifies deployment and eliminates sensor-to-sensor synchronization issues.
- Energy audits: Correlating temperature, humidity, and lighting data reveals where energy is being wasted—overcooled zones, over-lit corridors, and humidity spikes from poor ventilation.
- Occupancy inference: Light levels in a conference room correlate with occupancy, no cameras needed. Pair with temperature trends to confirm usage patterns and optimize HVAC scheduling.
The TH01LX doesn’t use a basic photoresistor. It features a BH1750 digital illuminance sensor, the same chip used in professional light meters - mounted on an external probe with a 50 cm cable. This design matters because light readings are highly position-dependent. The probe can be placed at workstation height, at canopy level in a greenhouse, or near a window for daylight harvesting, while the main sensor body mounts wherever is most convenient.
The probe covers 0 to 65,535 lx with 1 lx resolution. For context: a typical office should maintain 300–500 lx at desk level, direct sunlight exceeds 30,000 lx, and most plants require 5,000–10,000 lx for healthy growth. The TH01LX covers the full range.
Pro Tip: Position the lux probe at the height where you need the actual measurement, desk level for office lighting audits, canopy height for grow operations. Light intensity drops rapidly with distance from the source, so probe placement directly affects data quality.

Why It Matters Buildings account for approximately 40% of total energy consumption in the US, and lighting represents a significant share. A single TH01LX sensor feeding lux data to an automated lighting system can help reduce that waste - while the temperature and humidity data simultaneously optimizes HVAC. Three measurements, one device, one battery that lasts a decade. |
The lux sensor is available now through the ioX-Connect online store and our sales team. Whether you’re deploying a single sensor in a conference room or hundreds across a building portfolio, every unit ships pre-provisioned and ready for your LoRaWAN network.
